The Sea of Cortez side is protected, sunny days are the norm year-round, and the marina runs charters twelve months a year. That said, each season offers something different. Here’s how to pick the right time for the trip you want.
December–April: Whale Season and Peak Season
This is the marquee window. Humpback and gray whales migrate into the waters around Cabo, and it’s completely normal to see breaching whales from the deck of your yacht—sometimes shockingly close.
- Why go: Whales, perfect 75–85°F days, and festive holiday energy.
- Keep in mind: This is the highest-demand period of the year. Christmas, New Year’s, and spring break weeks book well in advance. The water is at its coolest, although it is still swimmable.
- Best for: Whale watching, holiday trips, and anyone who wants the classic Cabo postcard experience.
May–June: The Sweet Spot
The crowds thin out after spring break, the water warms up, and the weather is superb. Availability opens up, and you’ll have some of the best snorkeling bays—including Santa Maria and Chileno—with fewer crowds.
Best for: Couples, honeymoons, and travelers who want peak conditions without peak-season prices.
July–September: Warm-Water Season
This is when the Sea of Cortez turns into a swimming pool. Water temperatures reach the mid-80s, snorkeling visibility is at its best, and this is a prime season for combining a charter with world-class fishing.
Afternoons can be hot and humid, and late summer carries a chance of tropical weather, so a morning departure is generally the best choice.
Best for: Snorkeling and swimming, fishing add-ons, and families traveling during summer break.
October–November: A Local Favorite
The heat breaks, the sea is still warm, and the town comes alive with the Bisbee’s fishing tournaments in October.
November may be the single most underrated month in Cabo, with excellent weather, warm water, and shoulder-season availability before the holiday rush begins.
Best for: Value seekers, fishing fans, and relaxed trips before the winter crowds.
